Petty to serve as interim dean for Cato College of Education

Appointment effective in January upon Dean McIntyre's departure

Dr. Teresa Petty has been selected as interim dean of the Cato College of Education effective January 16, 2020, upon the departure of Dean Ellen McIntyre. Dean McIntyre has accepted a position at the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Petty joined UNC Charlotte in 2005. She has served as associate dean in the Cato College since 2016. During her time at UNC Charlotte, she has contributed significantly to the College through scholarship focused on online teaching and learning and the impact of national board certification for teachers and their students. She recently developed a graduate certificate program to prepare teachers for the national board certification process.

In addition, Petty is the principal investigator for a recently awarded $1.8 million Teacher Quality Partnership grant from the U.S. Department of Education. She is the 2016 recipient of the Outstanding Paper Award at the Society of Information Technology and Teacher Education International Conference, as well as the 2014 recipient of the UNC Charlotte College of Education Excellence in Teaching Award.

She received her Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction from UNC Chapel Hill. She earned her master’s degree in educational computing technologies/supervision and her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from UNC Greensboro.
